One of the most famous tourist traps in Germany, Potsdam is a ‘must-see’ cultural centre for visitors and is also the capital of the state of Brandenburg. There are many popular diversions for visitors to the area, including the Schloss Sanssouci and adjacent Sanssouci Park, which is home to beautiful landscaped gardens and many other attractions. The former Summer Residence of Frederick the Great is particularly impressive, and the Russian colony Alexanrowka, the Holland district and the former Bohemian Weber give a European quality to the city.
Strolling through the baroque style city centre in Babelsburg, visitors can find a host of boutiques and restaurants. Particularly famous is the Brandenburger Strasse, which is home to shops, modern malls and an old courtyard for a refreshment stop. For a natural alternative, the public park on the BUGA fair offers boat trips around the city and the Crown Estate has some beautiful gardens. |
