Situated in Westphalia, Rheine is a charming town and home to many interesting sights for visitors which effectively show its history. The Bentlage Monastery Museum is particularly recommended and shows Impressionist and Expressionist shows, which rotate on a regular basis. The Westphalian State Museum for Art and Cultural History is equally impressive, and home to works by artists including Max Slevogt, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and August Macke.
For alternative pursuits, visitors can enjoy the regular fruit and vegetable markets occurring on Market Street and Abbey Road. The Emstorplatz is also host to regular street performances. History enthusiasts can also visit the Museum at Old Station Road, which documents the development of the Rheine effectively. Beside the Museum, on Old Station Road, there is also a regular weekly market. |
