Weimar is one of the most interesting and well known visitor traps in the whole of Germany. Well accessed by road as well as other forms of transportation, this is a city steeped in history. There are twenty museums dotted throughout Weimar, and with so much on offer it is worth spending several days negotiating this landmark German town. Particular highlights including Goethe’s home, which was built in the eighteenth century and home to the great poet and writer between 1782 and 1789. You can also take in the Duchess Anna Amalia Library, in which the Rococo Hall is particularly famous.
Visitors can also visit the Theaterplatz, Bauhaus Museum and Goethe’s Summerhouse. The Frauenplan also served as a place of refuge for Goethe and after his death became a visitors’ focal point. The former concentration camps nearby are also another must-see. One yearly festival is the onion market which taken place annually and is regarded as one of the best in Europe. By car, you can reach Weimar by the A7, A4 and A45. |
