A young city, Wilhelmshaven is home to monuments and churches as well as a host of modern amenities that are sure to entertain visitors. Named a city by King William I of Prussia, Wilhelmshaven is one of the largest naval bases in Germany and this Marine culture is embedded in day to day life. The tourism services are excellent, and Wilhelmshaven is one of the largest decentralized projects in the world. The Grand Harbour attractions in the Aquarium and also the German Navy Museum, National Centre and Sea House and the Coastal Museum are other excellent choices for visitors to try. Close to the South Beach and next to the Kaiser Wilhelm bridge, the Wilhelmshaven Museum is another highlight. The shopping centre, with its glass galleries and charming surroundings, was designed by the architect Meinhard von Gerkan. In the "North Sea Passage," with its bustling shops, restaurants, cafes and bistros, it is ideal for a day out. |
