Another very famous tourist destination, and almost as popular as Corfu, Kefalonia is one of the Ionian Islands. Narrow winding roads can often mean that journey times are rather longer than might be expected from distances calculated from a map. Some of the popular villages include Zola and Spartia, and tourists can also find several resorts including Lassi and Poros. It has proved popular with holidaymakers for decades for its natural beauty, which is great for strolling around and taking in the scenery. The Enios Vally, which is covered by vineyeards and olive trees, is a gorgeous retreat and well worth visiting on foot. You can also enjoy some particularly good beaches in Kefalonia, especially in the Touh; most noted is Skala, which is 3km long and has its own village.
There are some great Coastal routes here which provide for some truly spectacular views of the areas close to the island. Recommended sightseeing includes Mount Aenos and the various monasteries that dot the hillside. The Korgialeneios Museum and the Museum in Fiscardo are also a good choice for visitors with a little more time. |
