An island that has proved popular with tourists from Europe for decades, Mykonos is a wonderful place to visit no matter what your interests are. From Mount Kynthos to the glittering waters surrounding the beaches, the scenery in Mykonos is simply breathtaking. Hiring a car is ideal for negotiating the nooks and crannies of the island, which can be tiring to explore on foot. Beaches including Agios Ioannis and Agios Stefanos are particularly recommended. Lion, which is one of the southernmost beaches, is highly recommended. The nightlife and clubbing scenes are some of the major reasons visitors travel here.
The little Venice and Alefkantras areas are perfect for enjoying the sunset and a cocktail or two, and there are scores of friendly bars that should help kick-start any evening. Be sure to try out the traditional snack, Lanza, which is a kind of meat, and also Kopanisti cheese. You can also explore the Archaeological Museum and the Folklore Museum. The Little Venice and Kalafati areas are also some of the most visited areas of the island. If you are on a longer-term tour of Greece, it takes less than seven hours to travel between Greece and Thessaloniki and less than two hours to Santorini. |
