Santorini is a popular tourist stop for visitors to Greece – and it’s easy to see why. Situated in the most Southern of the Cycladic group of islands, it is approximately sixty nautical miles from Crete.
There are a great variety of tourist attractions for visitors. These range from visiting the archaeological sites, which give an insight into prehistoric times on the island, as well as the volcanic lands of the Palea and the Red Beach near Akrotiri and Monolithos. For entertainment visitors should take advantage of the bar street, Erythrou Staurou, which is home to all kinds of establishments. Foodies should try some of the local cuisine, such as the tomato balls and fresh cheeses, which are generally made from the island’s own agricultural produce. For shopping, the island Capital, Fira, is the best bet for finding charming trinkets and other authentic gifts. You can also find a lot of arts works in this area, including locally produced pottery. |
