The town of Killarney bursts at the seam during the summer tourist season and the Ring of Kerry has queues of travelling coaches. Killarney is probably the number one town in Ireland for tourists. It’s more a tourist town than a tourist trap. The tourist hype does little to detract from the wild grandeur and solitude that abounds. Killarney has much space, scenery and ample opportunities for good walking and bike riding as well as taking a leisurely drive in the gentle green Irish countryside.
The majestic Killarney lakes which are overlooked by the town, offer much to see and do. Rowing a boat to Inishfallen Island for a picnic is a good idea or even visiting its 7th century monastery. Please note the journey to the island takes around 20minutes.
The Dingle and Iveragh peninsulas nearby are beautiful and have even more opportunities for outdoor activities and of course the pubs nearby are busy with lively music and atmosphere. Getting to Killarney is easy.
Access can be taken from Dublin Airport which is around 3hrs drive away on the N72 or via the local Kerry County Airport. Both airports have various car hire desks located in the terminal to pick up your car |
