The undistinguished village of Knock is probably most famous for its series of visions and reported miracles. One such vision is the one which took place at Knock Church in 1879 where two women were struck by the sight of Mary, Joseph and John standing at the end of the church. This miracle was apparently witnessed and confirmed. Other miracles occur for disabilities being healed, just like Lourdes in France.
Today Knock continues its magical attraction, with droves of people visiting each year to the Basilica of Our Lady, Queen of Ireland, which can accommodate thousands of people. Other attractions to Knock include it’s Folk museum, which basically gives an insight to the Knock phenomenon story and of course the historical crafting artefacts of bygone times.
Getting to Knock is easy. It is located to the north of the town is Knock International Airport, now re-branded Ireland West Airport some 10 miles away. It is served by many airlines with flights to the main cities of Ireland and Europe and is the main hub for the county of Mayo |
