Particularly famous for its truffle and peach production, Alba is situated 50km from Naples in Northern Italy and is a charming town steeped in history. From the beautiful Baroque and Gothic structures that dot the town centre, such as the Church of San Domenico and the Church of Saint John the Baptist, to the rolling hills of the countryside that surround the residential parts, Alba is the ideal place to experience ‘old school’ Italian charm. Visitors may wish to see the Castillo de Barolo and the Castillo di Prunetto.
A highlight of any trip to Alba would include sampling some of the local wine, which is easily done on one of the many tours of traditional cellars you will find on offer during a stay there. The Enoteca Le Torri wine bar comes particularly recommended. Additionally, any chocolate lover will particularly enjoy a visit to Alba, given that it is the home of the famous confectioner, Ferrero. The surrounding area of Langhe is ideal for a scenic drive; with its forest scenery, villages and hamlets you can lose yourself for hours. |
