As the capital of the Marche region, Ancona is the economic centre and one of the most impressive towns in the area. With some wonderful views of the Adriatic Sea and the Mount Conero, Ancona is a feast for the senses. Within close proximity of both Rome and Bologna, the main sights in the city include the fantastic Cathedral Church of Saint Ciriaco. During any stay there, it is also recommended that visitors check out some of the beaches close to the town centre, including Passetto and Palombino.
Additionally, for hikers and walkers, there are several options for your trip to Ancona; from the Guasco hill and the Colle dei Cappuccini as well as the various valleys that surround it, there are some spectacular routes to follow. The seafood is also highly recommended, due to Ancona’s waterside location; be sure to try some examples of traditional Italian favourites such as the regional fish stew. Indeed, you can even try making it yourself after purchasing some fish from some of the many markets that are dotted around. Ancona is also home to a well maintained highway network, from which it can be easily accessed -great for locating by car. It is also served by its own airport. |
