Located in the Piedmont area in the North of Italy, Asti is a charming city that attracts visitors for its stunning French and Savoy accented style, temperate climate, wine culture and great social scene. The centre for any visitor excursion is the city Cathedral, which is one of the largest and most famous Gothic structures in the whole of Piedmont.
Some particular highlights of Asti include the old Charterhouse, which is on the Via dell’Arazzeria and the Civic Art Gallery on the Corso Alfieri, which is home to some stunning examples of art and furniture from the fifteenth and sixteenth century Piedmontese artists. During the third Sunday in September each year, Asti celebrates the Palio de Asti and it is at this time that the city is at its most alive; there are costume parades, markets and banquets going on throughout. The Farmers’ Festival, the Astigiana, is another highlight and turns Asti into a virtual open-air restaurant on a grand scale; there, you can sample some of the best local dishes including famous white truffles. |
