This charming town, located close in the region of Treviso, is one of the most picturesque of the medieval-style towns that are found in northern Italy. It enjoys status as a vibrant tourist hub, although remains less well known than its world renowned neighbour and ‘love capital’ of Italy, Venice. One of Castelfranco’s most attractive qualities is the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds it; this is home to an array of unusual wildlife.
The gates to the town give an immediate indication of its historical importance as a fortification; this is underlined by the variety of artefacts around the town including the Giorgone. The monumental tomb of the Carol Scorpa Frieze is one of the most impressive in the region. Other notable attractions include the villa tieplo and the Castelfranco Veneto Cathedral. There are some excellent restaurants in the area, offering some fine examples of traditional Italian food; these include The Walls and Sweet Garbo. |
