A beautiful town in Tuscany, Lucca is close to the River Serchio which provides it with some excellent drives and idyllic charms for travellers and guests. Located thirty kilometres northeast of the Pisa airport and eighty-five kilometres west of Florence in Northern Tuscany, it was a very significant junction in Roman times. To the north of the city lie the Apuane Alps with their famous marble quarries, spas and mineral water springs, streams, woods and caves. These are particularly recommended for a day-trip by car. The Natural Park Visitor Centre is also home to some of the most delightful scenic landscapes in the region.
The Lucca Summer Festival in 2010 regularly hosts an array of internationally regarded musicians from within and outwith Italy. Some historical places of interest include the Cartoon Museum, which is in the heart of Lucca and a charming building which used to be a factory. Exports from Lucca include the famous writer, Giuseppe Ungaretti. |
