Orvieto is a charming town and provides an interesting insight into Italian culture away from bigger cities like Milan and Turin. With its central location, it is a great starting point for an extended tour of Italy, and its main point of access is the A1 road. Some recommended sights in Orvieto include the Palazzo Del Popolo and the Archaelogical Park, which are ideal for family days out. There are several festivals that occur throughout the year, such as the Corpus Christi and the Palombola Festivals. Another important site is the Chapel of San Brizzio.
The Duomo, or town square, is the ideal start for a walking tour of Orvieto and provides visitors with some excellent access to the surrounding areas including the underground Labryinth, which is extremely impressive. Around the town, you will also be able to purchase some lovely quaint traditional gifts from the various souvenir shops selling homemade wares. |
