With gorgeous views of the Mediterranean, San Remo is a haven for those looking to breathe in the fresh sea air whilst touring Italy. This charming part of the country is located along the A10 and A8 autoroutes from Genoa, and the European E80 route. It is considered the capital of the so-called Italian Riviera of Flowers.
Some of the major sites in San Remo for visitors include the Russian Orthodox Church and the Church of San Sivo. History lovers can also look at the Museo Civico (Civic Museum) and the Castello Devanchan. In the old part of the town, the La Pigna area is characterised by perched houses, steep streets, covered alleys and pleasant small squares – all giving an inviting glimpse into the Medieval times in the country. One of the most impressive monuments is the memorial to the Manta Goddess.
San Remo really comes alive during the summer time, which is when the Theatre Festival and the International Music Festival are held – so make sure to book your hotel early if you plan to be in town at this time of year. |
