Sassuolo is a charming part of Italy, and lies within driving distance of Modena – indeed, it is linked by the A1 Motorway and the SS486. It has played a significant role in the history of the province, and is well known for its ceramic industry – which produces some excellent works. It is also considered one of the best spots for sampling some of Modena’s pork products and regional pastas such as the Tortelloni.
Some of the most interesting areas of Sassuolo to explore on foot include the Plazas and Squares, of which there is the Martyrs’ Square which can be accessed by the Via Fennuzi and Via Battisti. The Palace of Casiglia is one of the more impressive historical buildings in the area. In addition to its vibrant independent theatre scene, one of the high points of Sassuolo’s social calendar is the Folk Festival which generally takes place in September – if you’re a folk fan and in the country, it’s a must. |
