Located in Northern Italy, the Franciscan influence of Treviso is one of the strongest and most interesting aspects of the town. Serviced by its own airport and not far from Venice and Trieste, one of Treviso’s main claims to fame is that it is the home of fashion house, Benetton. In the centre of the city, the Piazza dei Signai forms part of a beautiful medieval square, and from there you can easily negotiate the Palace of Prefecture and Palazzo del Podesta. Some of the attractions it is worth looking out for include the Museum of Santa Caterina and the Museum Civico Luigi Bailo; this in an impressive art gallery which is home to an extensive art collection – many of which dates back to the Renaissance period.
The Ca’dei Carrarevi organizes exhibitions throughout the year for solo and international artists as well as many international conferences. Treviso is particularly well known for providing excellent examples of traditional Italian fare. Some of the staples on offer in the town include risotto ‘to rajo’. One of the specialities of the town is also the radish, or radicchio. Because of its close proximity with Austria, you can also sample some of the traditional Austrian sweets in the town. There is a regular antiques market that is great for visitors to explore; additionally, the Film Festival in July at the Revine Lake is one of the most popular in the province.
