Often referred to as the ‘city of gardens’, Varese is connected to Milan by the A4. Something of a cultural Mecca, the city attracts a lot of interest for its contemporary music and arts scenes. Some of these areas include the Jazz Festival, which is held annually, and is one of the best times to visit the city.
The beautiful lakeside scenery is another reason to spend some time in Varese – there are several close to the town centre, including Brinzio, Ganna and Guirla. You can really soak up the essence of Italian lifestyle at the picturesque Bell Tower which is a great spot to enjoy some romance. The drive to Mount Orsa close by also makes hiring a car around Varese particularly recommended. Sights of archaeological interest include the Castelseprio Besano and some other of the many attractions includes the Dolls Museum and Sculpture Gallery. The area has a strong tradition of wine production dating back to the eighteenth century – which makes it the ideal place to try a tipple. The Green Bear microbrewery (L’Ordo Verde) is also home to some of the oldest and finest Italian beers – well worth a visit. |
