Situated in Piedmont in the North of Italy, Vercelli is a charming city and an escape from larger tourist destinations. One of the oldest areas in this part of the country, the influence of the lineage of the Visconti and Savoia families can be felt in the architecture. The many beautiful sights include the old ruins of the amphitheatre hippodrome and the Vercelli Synagogue. Visual arts also have an important home here, and it is another recommendation to tour some of the galleries around the town. Of the annual festivals, the Opera and Children’s Theatre Season are highlights. Holy Week is another excellent time to visit the town.
For food, visitors can try one of the city’s most famous dishes, which is called Panissa. It can be washed down nicely with some of the local wine (Gattinara). Vercelli is located within easy access of the A4 between Milan and Turin, as well as the A26 in the direction of Alessandria by the Vercelli exit. |
