Located in the south western part of Asia, Oman is a lesser known but flourishing tourist attraction. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia, amongst others. Muscat, the capital, is a pristine city which has been influenced by the Portuguese, Persian, Indian, African, Arabian and modern western influences. Simply wandering around the city will give you an indication of the lifestyle here. Muscat's neighbourhoods are separated by dramatic, rocky hillsides, many of which are dotted with abandoned guard posts; a photographers’ dream. By hiring a car you will also be well positioned to explore neighbouring countries including Yemen.

Then, in the early 20th century, a deeply conservative ruler, Sultan Said, chose deliberately to isolate the country from the modern world. His son, peace-loving Sultan Qaboos, assumed the throne in 1970 and that date now marks the beginning of the widely celebrated 'Renaissance' in which the country has been returned to an age of prosperity and progression.
