Located in the South East of Spain in Andalucia and close to the Bay of Gibraltar, Algeciras is an important industrial centre that is easily accessible from Malaga, Jerez and Gibraltar airports. It is also reachable by car via the E15, E05, the Autopista AP-7, the Autovia A-48, the N-340 and the GR 7 routes. Because of its ferry connection to Morocco, Algeciras is often visited for this purpose but the town has a quaint charm all its own which makes it a great stop for a relaxing few days. Indeed, the main road that leads to Algeciras, the Avenida de la Marina, has some beautiful scenic views.
In Algeciras, the Plaza Alta – or town square - is particularly worth a visit. Built in the eighteenth century, it is the best known area of the town. Leading away from the Plaza Alta you will find Calle Ancha street, which is home to a variety of boutiques and eateries; ideal for an afternoon break. |
