Well accessed from Malaga, Granada, and Seville airports, Almuñécar is a particularly renowned tourist destination in the Autonomous Region of Andalusia. The E15 coastal highway makes it particularly accessible by car, and stretches as far as La Herradura which is an area of historical significance further down this route. With its subtropical climate, Almunecar is perfect for a prolonged visit.
Areas of interest for visitors include the Moorish Castle, which was built on Roman foundations and bears marks of its period of Arab occupation and is also close to an interesting museum. The Archaelogical Museum, which is situated close by, is home to some wonderful examples of Egyptian artefacts, and the peaceful Majuelo Park is a lovely spot for an afternoon stroll. The old Watchtowers and coastal defences are particularly interesting points for visitors and provide an insight into Almunecar’s historical past. Because of the bay area, Almunecar is also particularly good for seafood lovers. |
