Huelva is a pretty city which is was a former industrial centre and still serves as a major port for Spain. There are many interesting historical monuments that visitors can see in Huelva, as well restaurants and bars. Indeed, one of the most famous facts about Huelva is that Christopher Columbus recruited local sailors for his voyage; he is now commemorated in the Monumento a Colon.
The Plaza de las Monjas is one of the most interesting areas of the town, and is the central pedestrianized shopping district. Other major sights in the city introduce the Huelva Museum and the Cathedral de la Merced and the Iglesia de San Pedro are also recommended for those interested in religious buildings. Dating back to Phoenician times, because it is a maritime town, expect some wonderful seafood offerings at some of the many local restaurants and bistros. As it is a very compact town, you can easily negotiate Huelva by car. |
