The capital of the Balearic Islands, the Palma Port – or Port of Palma – is one of the largest urban areas in Spain and offers a range of diversions for all different types of travellers’ interests. With a strong artistic scene, there are many products made here including some wonderful examples of traditional Spanish glasswork and pottery. From air and sea connections via Barcelona and Valencia, car hire on the island will make the most of a visit here. With a strong heritage from Roman times, it was regarded as the gateway to ports in Africa and Hispania in ancient times. It has also, over the years, incorporated some significant influences from its Vikings neighbours.
There are several recommended sites for visitors, ranging from the Pueblo Espanol which is a great example of the finest Spanish architecture to the Paseo Maritime which is a stretch of bars and restaurants, and is home to craft shops and restaurants; perfect for an afternoon stroll. |
