Nerja is located off the coast and close to Malaga; by car, you can travel there along the N340 coastal highway which affords some spectacular views of the surrounding scenery. Traditionally a small fishing village, Nerja has blossomed in the late twentieth century into a thriving town which is home to a small and buzzing tourist scene.
The smallness of the size of the town, coupled with the small population, means the Nerja is something of an unspoiled gem. It has some magnificent beaches, which are some of the whitest sands in Europe, and here visitors can find access to a range of exciting watersports and adventures.
With the mountain range of the Sierra Almijara close by, Nerja is flanked with some enviable scenery which heightens its appeal. As the so-called ‘Balcony of Europe’ visitors will appreciate the cliff views and the site of the once great Moorish castle. As Nerja is so close to Malaga, it is also well positioned for a driving day trip. |
