One of the most famous Spanish holiday destinations, Tenerife has proved extremely popular as a retreat for Brits abroad for decades. One of the biggest of the Canary Islands, its capital is Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island’s rich variety of beautiful landscape includes Las Canadas and the Anaga Massif, and there are many sandy beaches waiting for visitors to unwind and relax in.
Given its strong tradition as a tourist destination, Tenerife offers an abundance of amenities. Some of the cultural highlights of Tenerife include the many public and private art galleries and museums. Each year there is also a well renowned opera and light opera – or ‘Zarzuela’ – season. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra is one of the most famous in Spain. Additionally, the times during the Corpus Christi and Easter Festivals are particularly recommended for paying a visit to the island. A lesser known highlight is the southern town of Arafo’s water festival, which takes place every year in honour of St. Augustine – well worth driving to! Driving to Tenerife is easy; you can connect vi the Autopista del Sure and the Autopista del Norte |
