Dating back to the Bronze age, Aigle has been a holiday hotspots for generations. Easily accessible from Montreux, which is only thirteen kilometres away, it swoops on to the east end of the Rhone Valley and close to the Vaudois Alps. The capital of the district of the same name, the settlements of Le Cloitre, Vers Pousaz and Fontanney also provide for pleasant stopping places along close by. Hiking around the area proves particularly popular with tourists from all around the country. An important thoroughfare since Roman times, the Great Saint Bernard road that leads up to it is a beautiful area of the country to explore by car.
Well-known for its historical links with Italy, Aigle is also home to some of the finest vineyards in the country and has year-round attractions. From the rue Jersusalem, which is lined with old houses, to Rue de Bourg which is well known for its excellent shopping amenities, to the place du Centre where there is a terrific market square, Town Hall and clock tower there is plenty to explore for those of all tastes and interests all within site of the gorgeous mountain views that make Aigle so special |
