Ascona Locarno is situated in the Lago Maggiore region and is easily accessed by car and is well situated for exploring several bordering countries. These range from Italy, which borders at Chiasso-Brogeda and can be accessed along the A2. From the north, the motorway leads to Bellizona. In the south, Ascona and Locarno are located in Ticino by the River Maggia which flows directly into the Lake Maggiore. Given that the area is sheltered by the Alps, Ascona and Locarno have a fantastic climate with some fantastic plants on offer including magnolia and camellias.
Of the many activities on offer aside from driving, you will find Ascona Locarno an excellent place to walk and hike amongst gardens and along the shores of the lakes. These areas are well served by several small towns including the Orselina. The centre of Locarno is the famous Piazza Grande, which is a charming square close to the lake. During August, visiting Locarno is particularly popular given the International Film Festival that is held annually in the Piazza Grande. Other sights well worth checking out in the area include the resort in Orselina, where the captivating Castello Visconteo – named after Visconti – is one of the most captivating tourist attractions in the whole country |
