Widely regarded as a business centre for the Canton Region of Switzerland, Langenthal is an important cultural centre in its own right that is also known for its wide range of cultural and natural attractions. Tracing the old railway line, you can see how an important an historical link Langenthal was from its old rail link between Bern and Olten.
Most of the population work in the textile industry, and it is for this that Langenthal is particularly known. The pretty river, Langeten, traces through the town and into the River Aare, giving way to the natural landscape and expanses of greenery that also spread around the town.
The acclaimed Kunsthaus, which is the main art gallery is one of the highlights of a visit here and has a particular focus on Swiss modern art. The Design Center Langenthal is also a great cultural institution.
Other highlights for art lovers include the Chrämerhuus Culture Centre, which stages a contemporary culture programme ranging between experimental minority and popular entertainment cultures. Additional recommendations are the Trummlehus exhibits a collection of rhythm instruments from all over the world. The Langenthal animal park is particularly popular for visitors with families. |
