The predominantly German-speaking city of Zurich lies northeast of Lucerne in north-central Switzerland at the northwestern end of Lake Zurich. As the largest urban area in the country, it has been settled for more than 7,000 years and was originally founded by the Romans. Today, it is home to a wide variety of excellent museums and cultural venues, including the Kunsthaus and the Swiss National Museum. Between 2006 and 2008 Zurich was awarded the honor of having the best quality of life for any city in the world and it remains one of the wealthiest in all of Europe
