The city of Liverpool is one of the most exciting and rumbustious cities in all the United Kingdom. Famed for its friendly and warm people whether their dry and self deprecating sense of humor, its football team(s) and probably most of all being the place where the Beatles strummed their first guitars. Located on the mid- west of England, Liverpool is a port city situated on both banks of the River Mersey. Many of the population of Liverpool came to the city to escape the potato famine in Ireland in the mid nineteenth century, and their presence in the community is strongly felt in their warmth and happy go lucky nature. Like many cities in the North of England, Liverpool has changed her face over the last fifty years or so, and has moved on to be less industrially orientated and more of a center for commerce and entertainment. There is no doubting the tremendous influence that the birth of the Beatles had on the image of Liverpool, as the number one swinging city of England in the nineteen sixties. An image that remains largely untarnished to this day. Entertainment in Liverpool is at the highest level and there is so much to do and see in the city that visitors are simply taken aback for choice.
It goes without saying that a visit to the Beatles museum is number one the list for most people, yet there is something in the city for everyone including some of the finest museums and art galleries. Many say that the jewel in the crown of all Liverpool’s museums is the recently refurbished World Museum. Other equally well known museums are the Liverpool Tate Gallery and the Merseyside Maritime Museum situated on the Albert Dock on the shores of the River Mersey. Those who want to take a nostalgic trip across the river on the famous ferry will be able to take in these landmarks and more. Liverpool comes alive at night and the city has so much to offer in the way of entertainment, from the finest restaurants to bars, nightclubs to theaters. There is something for everyone.
For visitors to the city who like to explore there are many nearby attractions to visit on a day trip, including safari parks, wild flower centers as well as some beautiful and well tended country parks to stop and have a picnic. For those who like to breath the sea air and feel the sand between their toes, the nearby holiday resort of Southport offers that and more.
Renting a car can be an economical way to travel around Liverpool and the greater region. Car Hire in Liverpool usually comes as a ‘fully inclusive’ package which includes unlimited mileage, collision damage waiver, passenger indemnity insurance and cover for third party, fire and theft - and usually insurance excess. To rent a car anywhere in the United Kingdom, you must show a full driver's licence and a credit card in the driver’s name. Cars are usually rented to customers between the ages of 21 to 70 years.
