The center of Manchester is a mixture of old and new. Like most of the major industrial cities of the North, the center of the city is catacombed with wide canals which were in use during the industrial revolution to transport goods to and from the many huge factories established during that time. In recent the areas around the canals have been extensively renovated, and now are at the hub of the city center action. And action there is a plenty in Manchester. From the best and most interesting restaurants offering cuisines so varied to suit everyone’s palate. Night clubs and bars are everywhere, with some of the best being situated in the canal region. Manchester’s Chinatown is the largest in all of the UK, and some of the greatest dining and shopping experiences can be had there.
Museums and art galleries are also very much in evidence, with the most prominent being the modern Museums of British Aerospace and Science and Technology. Much of Lowry’s work can be viewed in the Art Gallery named after him on the canal bank of Salford where Lowry lived.
