The town of Aix-les-Bains is located in the Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France, just 9 kilometers north of Chambéry. It is close to the Lac du Bourget – the largest and deepest lake that is entirely located within the country’s border.
Aix-les-Bains has been inhabited since Roman times, and in fact, the town was at one time home to a Roman bath. Today, a variety of ruins still exist from this time period, making it a popular tourist destination, while the town itself has once again become home to a number of luxury spas. In addition, Mont Revard stands sentry over the town, so hiking is one of the main attractions for some visitors, while the lake also provides a variety of sporting activities, including swimming, beaches, fishing and canoeing – to name only a few! Also, be sure to stop by the Museum of Doctor Faure, which is home to several works by Picasso, Cézanne and Rodin. |
