Located in the Cantal region of France in southwest Auvergne, the city of Aurillac is known for its superb atmosphere, historic churches and other buildings of interest to tourists. In addition, it is a vital regional centre and offers a wide variety of shops and boutiques for visitors and locals to explore.
As in many French cities, Aurillac has a charming old town that is complete with narrow, winding streets, pleasant squares and scrumptious cafes. In addition, this part of town is largely restricted to motor vehicles, so be sure to find a safe place to park your rented car and walk.
While here, be sure to pay a visit to the Chateau Saint-Etienne, which overlooks Aurillac and houses the Museum of the Volcanoes. Also, be sure to head out of town and take a drive on the Route des Cretes, which winds through the valleys of the Authre and Jordan rivers and affords breathtaking views of Cantal before leading to the pristine villages of Albinhac and Brommat. |
