Located in the Somme department in the Picardie region of France, the town of Boves is located only nine kilometers south of Amiens and belongs to the Canton of Boves. The Viaduc Jules Verne is located just outside of town, so be sure to rent a car when visiting this friendly and charming town. This region is renowned for its fine cathedrals, and the Somme River winds through the region, providing a large wildlife refuge and estuary.
South of town, the countryside becomes flat and agriculture is the primary source of income for locals. Continuing southeast, plenty of wooded hills provide a gorgeous backdrop for a day trip, with a variety of boating, camping, hiking and fishing opportunities available throughout the Somme Valley for outdoorsy-types.
If cultural excursions are more your type of thing, however, don’t despair! Head up the road to Amiens and spend a day touring the largest cathedral in France that was built to house the head of John the Baptist and remains a focal point today for pilgrims and art enthusiasts alike. |
