Located in the Rhone-Alpes region of southeastern France, the lovely city of Brignais lies 15 kilometers southwest of Lyon near the Rhone Valley and the beautiful hills of Monts du Lyonnais. The city can be reached by rental car, but it is interestingly also accessible via the Garon River.
While visiting Brignais, be sure to check out the stunning Roman Aqueduct of Gier, which was built during the 1st century and is the largest hydraulic system in existence, next to that of Rome. Also of interest, the old bridge on Garon is composed of tiny pebbles and slabs of granite and has been listed on the official inventory of Historic Monuments in France since 1934. In addition, the many Genoese are a wonder to behold – designed using double or even triple friezes and composed of rows of round tiles that form a ledge under the roof on the front of homes – and were inspired by the Italian architecture of the 18th century. |
