The stunning village of Cargèse is located in the Corsica region of France on the west coast of the island of Corsica at the Gulf of Sagone, just over 30 kilometers north of Ajaccio. Historically, this area has been inhabited since the 17th century and boasts a rich cultural past that includes Greek as well as native Corsican influences.
While visiting Cargèse, be sure to visit the two churches that face one another overlooking the harbor and were built to service the Greek and Corsican populations, respectively. Also of note, three Genoese towers grace the area. The Torra di Carghjesi is located close to the village on the Punta di Cargèse, while the Torra d’Omigna and the Torra d’Orchinu can be found just to the north of the village. The coast here is jagged and rocky, but it is also quite beautiful, and five beaches are located nearby, making Cargèse a popular tourist destination today. |
