The charming town of Cavaillon is located on the right bank of the Durance River in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southeastern France under a hill known as Colline St-Jacques, which offers stunning views of the Vallee de la Durance and the Alpilles mountain range that envelops the town. Be sure to reserve a rental car for your visit here, as Cavaillon is the perfect place from which to branch out and explore everything the region has to offer.
In addition to several interesting historical attractions, Cavaillon is home to a thriving agricultural market, and the area is particularly well known for producing scrumptious melons. Also of note, the 12th century church of St-Jacques and the 4th century cathedral of Notre Dame are worth a visit, while the 18th century Hotel Dieu now houses an interesting archaeological museum. In fact, this site has been inhabited since the Neolithic era, while a number of Roman ruins also exist in the area, including a 1st century triumphal arch. |
