The stunning seaside town of L'Île-Rousse can be found in the Mediterranean Sea on the northwestern coast of the island of Corsica, southeast of Cannes in the Corsica region of France. The town was officially established in the mid-18th century, but the area has been inhabited since 5000 BCE, undoubtedly because of the protected natural bay and plentiful resources.
Not surprisingly, today L'Île-Rousse is a popular tourist destination, thanks to the rich history and the sunny, typically Mediterranean climate. The town itself lies on a naturally protected bay and boasts a pristine white sand beach. Also of note, the old town area is known as Pascal Paoli and is comprised of nicely paved streets, a fishing port and harbor. Here visitors will delight in the Florentine architecture, as well as in the main square, which boasts two enormous date palms that are over 100 years old! In addition, be sure to check out the historic Franciscan convent and old parish church. |
