Located in the Aquitaine region of southwest France, Lesparre Medoc is a charming village in the heart of the northerly vineyards of the Medoc wine-growing region. As one might imagine, the town is therefore a great base from which to sample a variety of fine vintage wines, and also be sure to reserve a rental car, as Bordeaux is only 60 kilometers away.
Although Lesparre Medoc was once a thriving location that catered to the needs of the aristocracy, today it is a small town that nonetheless offers a variety of tourism attractions and historical monuments. For example, although the main castle has been destroyed, the defense tower – known as the “Tower of Honor” – is still standing and dates to the 14th century, while nine other churches in the area are sure to satisfy a love of history and architecture. For those who prefer outdoor activities, the many wild landscapes, forests and small villages in the area offer wonderful opportunities for hiking, horseback riding and cycling. |
