The magnificent historic town of Lyon is located in the Rhone-Alpes region of east-central France between Marseille and Paris. A major centre of business, the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is widely renowned for its many architectural and historical attractions. Once the silk capital of the world, Lyon is now known as the culinary capital of France, so visitors will delight in the quality and variety of cuisine here.
The attractions here are seemingly endless, so be sure to plan ahead and allot plenty of time to see what is most important for you. Some of the ruins in and around Lyon date all the way back to Roman times, including the Ancient Theatre of Fourviere, the Odeon of Lyon and the Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls. Also, be sure to consider stopping at the Gallo-Roman Museum, which is the perfect complement for a walking tour of the ruins. In addition, the Old Lyon quarter is magnificent, as is the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere. |
