The town of Migennes is located in the Burgundy region of north-central France. While it is not known for being a popular tourist destination, the Burgundy canal here is significant and offers a variety of lovely day trips by boat.
The town is perched at the northern entrance to the canal, boasting easy access from the river Seine to the river Yonne, and allowing barges to navigate from the south to the north of France. The Burgundy region itself is renowned for its winemaking industry, which includes both red and white varieties. Interestingly, the district has a special claim to the famous wine known as Chablis, which must be made in certain areas of this region in order to bear that name. Foodies don’t despair, however, the cuisine here is also unparalleled! Of special note is the boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin and Epoisses de Bourgogne cheese. |
