Located in southeastern France close to the place where the Rhone and Roubion rivers converge, the town of Montelimar is situated southwest of Valence in the Rhone-Alpes region of the country. Settled ever since the Celtic area, the city is home to the impressive Chateau des Adhemar, which was built during the Middle Ages and can be seen from miles away when approaching the city.
Montelimar is also renowned for its nougat – a confection made by combining sugar or honey with roasted nuts and candied fruit, that is one of the 13 official desserts of Provence. But this is only one of the many things that make Montelimar a great place to stop on a road trip through the region! If you decide to do so, be sure to also check out the popular aire (service station) located here, which offers an impressive array of amenities for weary travelers, including accommodations, a variety of dining options, scuba diving, camping and fencing! |
