Located in the Lorraine region of northeastern France, the settlement here dates back to 800 BCE and features a number of significant historical attractions and World Heritage buildings. The motto of Nancy is Non inultus premor, which is Latin for “No one touches me with impunity,” and stems from a reference to the thistle, which is the symbol of Lorraine.
The stunning Place Stanislas is a must-see, as is the Place de la Carriere and the Place d’Alliance, which are all World Heritage Sites and feature a number of stunning architectural styles. Also of note, the Ecole de Nancy was founded by a group of architects and artists who were interested in studying the Art Nouveau style at the end of the 19th century. As a result Nancy today still boasts many fine examples of Art Nouveau structures. In addition, the 18th century cathedral of Nancy is quite impressive and can be found in the old city centre |
