Located in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, France, the community of Pontoise is just 28.4 kilometers from the city center and is a settlement that can be traced all the way back to Roman times. It is well known as a centre for impressionist painters, who are drawn to the area’s unique landscapes. In fact, artists from the likes of Cezanne to Gauguin and Van Gogh have lived and worked in Pontoise over the years.
While visiting, be sure to reserve a rental car in order to enjoy easy access to the many attractions throughout the Ile de France region. Also, be sure to pay a visit to the 12th century Cathedrale Saint-Maclou de Pontoise, which boasts several newer, Renaissance-era additions. In addition, the Musee de Pontoise (also known as the Musee Tavet-Delacour) is home to a number of sculptures dating back to the Middle Ages, as well as a variety of 17th century manuscripts and 20th century paintings. |
