The grand city of Reims is situated in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France and lies 129 kilometers northeast of Paris. A true historical treasure, the city was first settled around 80 BCE and today boasts a variety of attractions, making this a popular tourist destination.
Perhaps the most well known monument here is the magnificent cathedral Notre-Dame de Riems, which was built in the 13th century on a site that has been a holy site since the 4th century. Although the cathedral suffered heavy damage during World War I, it has been completely repaired since then. Also of note, be sure to visit the oldest monument in the city, the Porte de Mars, which is a stunning triumphal arch that dates all the way back to the 4th century. In addition, make time to check out the Palace of Tau, which dates to the 14th century and the Saint Remi Basilica, which dates to the 11th century. |
