The stunning city of Thionville is situated in the Lorraine region of northeastern France near the Moselle River, just over 15 kilometers from the border of Luxembourg. Today, it is a popular stop for travelers driving through the region, thanks to its beauty and rich history, which can be traced all the way back to the 8th century.
While visiting Thionville, be sure to check out Villa Theodon, which is rumored to have housed Charlemagne on numerous occasions, as well as the 11th century Tour aux Puces, which is now home to the town’s museum. In addition, the 18th century Château de La Grange and its surrounding gardens are definitely worth a look, while the 13th century Château de Volkrange is beautifully restored. Also of note, a magnificent market is held every Saturday on the Rue de Manege, while the historic old town centre, known as Sierck-les-Bains, is not to be missed. |
