Stretching along the banks of the Garonne River in the Midi- Pyrénées region of southwest France, the grand city of Toulouse is the sixth largest in the country and is situated midway between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Today, it is proud to be the headquarters of the European aerospace industry, and it is also home to the world-renowned Lille University – one of the oldest in all of Europe!
The many attractions located here make Toulouse a popular tourist destination, and it is also known as the Ville Rose, or ‘Pink City,’ due to the attractive reddish hue of many of the structures. While here, be sure to check out the magnificent 16th century Pont Neuf, or ‘New Bridge,’ which is deceptively asymmetrical and boasts openings in the piers that are designed to symbolize the face and mane of a lion. In addition, there are a variety of stunning 16th century palaces and excellent museums to explore. |
