The charming and ancient town of Vannes is located in the fascinating Brittany region of northwestern France on the Gulf of Morbihan at the mouth of the Vannes River. It is just over 300 kilometers west of Paris and around 100 kilometers northwest of Nantes. Settlement here dates back more than 2000 years, and today this seaside market town allows visitors to experience firsthand access to its long and rich history.
While visiting Vannes, be sure to check out the old town centre, which boasts a wide variety of lovely half-timbered houses, as well as the Porte Saint-Vincent, which is a stunning 18th century gate. In addition, the old city walls are amazing to behold. Here, visitors can view the Tour du Connétable – an impressive medieval tower – as well as the Château de l’Hermine – a former castle that was transformed to a magnificent palace in the 17th century. |
